Tier 3
La Grande, United States

Our festival serves a diverse and passionate audience that values bold storytelling, fresh voices, and independent cinema across all genres. We aim to program films that spark conversation, reflect a range of lived experiences, and resonate both emotionally and intellectually with our community. For many of our local festival patrons, it is their only yearly exposure to independent film in a theater, so we're committed to bringing our audiences something to be excited about annually. Every submitted film is watched in full by at least 2, and often 3, members of our programming team during the first round. Viewers assign 1 of 3 ratings: “Recommend,” “Pass,” or “Unsure.” Films that receive only “Pass” ratings are eliminated. All others advance to a second round, where an additional two to three programmers screen the film in its entirety. At that stage, each film has been viewed by 4 to 5 team members, which allows strong titles to emerge organically through both scores and discussion. Our programming team is composed of board members and trusted film professionals - many of whom have longstanding ties to the festival. Each submission is given careful, thoughtful consideration by people who are deeply committed to independent film and passionate about building an exceptional lineup year after year. Once consensus favorites begin to emerge, we look closely at how each film contributes to the overall shape, tone, and diversity of the program as a whole.
